August 23, 2011
With the birds flocking, the grapes ripening and the nets now covering the fruit, it’s time to admit that the summer season and for us, the tasting season, is coming to an end. What a wonderful season we have had! We’ve met so many people at our winery and had such a great time chatting about wine, grapes, local food and just about every other topic you can imagine. Among other events, we’ve celebrated Tom’s birthday with Red Hat Ladies and John Curry of the Stittsville News, chatted with A Channel’s Jeff Hopper, CBC’s Cory O’Kelly and even had a wedding reception at Jabulani – congratulations Janet (no, not me another Janet) and Mike!

You’ve all enjoyed the wines so much that we have had many a blog written about Jabulani and we very much appreciate your views. Many of you have enjoyed our reds so much so that our 2010 Marquette/Shiraz has sold out! Not to worry; I’m working on Tom see if he will let the brother of that one, which is aging in the oak (2010 for 2012 release), to be released in time for Christmas…yes, I know, “no wine before its time”.
After Labour Day weekend, our tasting area will close for the winter. We will be transforming the tasting and selling room back into a winery and starting the whole fermentation process again. This does not mean that you cannot buy wine. We will be open by appointment to sell wine and plan on re-opening the selling area just for the two weekends prior to the Christmas break. The tasting area will officially re-open when the warm sun comes back again in June of 2012.
Many of you have put your names down as volunteers and we will be sending out messages concerning harvest of both grapes and apples this Fall. We will also be sending out messages for the Spring season when we will be having a work bee for tying the vines in preparation for the 2012 growing season.
Hope to see you over the next two weekends and remember to Celebrate Always!
